(Eragrostis Tef/Teff)

:-O Yeah, you are here too!!
(Nairobi),

Hi
I was in Ethiopia 5 years ago. Africa is always very hard for travelling. If Ethiopia are your first visit to Africa the first days might be a bit of shock.
Trasportation: There are buses to many destinations in Ethipia. There is a huge bus station in Addis Ababa. It is very crowded and a big mess. Try to buy the ticket the day before. The buses usually depart with delay, however, try to be there early and try to find your bus. So you might get a good seat (as there is no seat reservation). Roads are usually unpaved and the travel is very slow, shaking, dusty and tiring. It took us one and a half day to travel 400km, with a night stop. Seats are very narrow and you better take all your luggage with you in the bus. After having had an accident on our second bus ride (fortunately nobody was hurt) we prefered to travel by airplane after. Etiopian Airlines has a good network and prices are ok. But some routes might be booked out on short notice.
Security: People are usually very friendly. But the country is very poor, so be cautious because you as a tourist are very rich to them. Don't show your belongings in public areas and hide your money at different places. In cities do not walk outside at night, take taxis.
Eating: There are many international restaurants in Addis Ababa, and in many other tourist places you can find decent restaurants. Price is 5 to 10 Euros for a dinner. Transportation by bus is really cheap. Backpackers hotel you can find for 10 to 20 Euros.

I have ordered a Bradt Guide for Ethiopia and have been reading it for a few days.
Ethiopia seems a really fascinating country (more han Kenya and Uganda I think). However, it seems not as developed as Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda (possibly because it was never colonized ironically). I may think about goinf there with a tour operator instead of completely independent.
I don't like to take mini-vans, especially in Africa (they usually drive very fast and do not follow traffic rules). But it seems the only choice when traveling independently in Africa (especially in Ethiopia).
So....still undecided if I should go this June.

Long distance bus in Ethiopia is always big bus, however, the journey is also always "unforgetable" (i mean, the bus experience in ethiopia is very "interesting", actually, the worst in my whole trip actually)
but ethiopia is a very unique country in Africa, you shouldnt miss it.
REALLY!!

I have read over your distinct travelogues. Admirable! Same to the photos! (Y)
I adore the way you see things while exploring different lands. That's truly traveler's spirit...think profoundly and see what the others do not see!
