I'm here --mekong angkor palace hotel siem reap--4 days already!for us$20 per night for their nice swimming pool,I can swim in the midnight!It's very easy to find any room that you want here...
and You don't need to change Riel,just carry your US$,I also use RMB to change US$ at mekong bank,It's simple and currency is really great!!
BTW I almost travelled all the Angkor area temples;strongly recommanded :by TUK TUK is the cheap and nice way for taking pictures!Angkor area is bigger more than you know!Like
Banteay Srei ,Beng Mealea..I don't think you can ride the bicycle to go there....

I only saw 2 young guys (Taiwanese )lived in BE QUEST.
Cambodian people are very friendly ..same same Thai people;
Like my friend "koy" TUK TUK driver,so I can get the incredible local price to Banteay Srei ,Beng Mealea...under us$20!!!
we smoke and drink together everyday.....
BTW,IF you are afraid of "BIG SUN",DON'T COME HERE!

To get some currency Riel in your hand is not a stupid thing, because 1000riel or 2000riel is good for tipping, you don't have to give usd1 for tipping every time (may be you don't mind if you are rich guy)

I stayed here Cambodia 13 days already;through Sihanoukville,Siem reap,Sisophon,now I'm at sky park guest house Phnom Penh..37*C at daytime!!WONDERFUL SUNNY DAY !
I never paid us$1 for tip,sometimes I paid only $500
or $1000 riel,about sky park guest house is near spring guest house,Germany embassy is also here;10 mins walking to the famous capitol guest house,But for my cambodian friend introducing:in this area,I paid us$7 pernight for fan room,sky park guest house is the best !!New and clean and the bed cushion is fantastic !!
I repeat again:DON'T USE US$ TO CHANGE RIEL !!STUPID!!!Here you must buy water everyday.Usually I bought cheap bottle one for $500 riel(cambodian made).whenever you go shopping(central market,russian market..)'eating,you pay us$50 '$20 or $10,they
will change you some us$ with small riel($100,$500 or $1000)
so naturally you'll get more riel.Indeed some small shop or restaurant ,they don't accept us$100 (to them it's a big $)
My solution is going to the super market BIG A (monivong blvd.)
Lucky market (near independence monument) ,buying some drinks 'food then They'll change you some us$ with small riel.It's very easy.just follow your compass,make sure the correct direction to find them !
BTW,on the south monivong blvd(street 280 area to mao tse toung
blvd),many cheap and nice restaurants ,fruit shops are there,same same like Taiwan night market.You also can see many Chinese shops.....
In fact,I saw many Chinese shops in Phnom Penh.Most cambodian people they respect and like Chinese,for China is stronger now!
Many old China-Cambodian, they immigrated here many years ago,
hard working and now are rich,they are also proud of China.
They really got the huge economic power here ....

第一家叫加華銀行,小小間,有ATM,還有一個小櫃檯,我拿2千台幣給她,她要換我48美金,我當場臉都綠了,太誇張了 8o| ,
第二家在舊市場外的大馬路,往BEGUEST GH的路上,很多老外在換,他要換我56美金,我也不滿意,但人在異鄉,誰叫自己沒帶夠,只好吃虧,咬牙換了 :'( !所以錢真的要在國內就換好,而且預算要抓鬆點!結果我後來回國還剩30美金,真是捶心肝 :'(

3/24 剛從Angor wat 回來, 發現一件怪異的事, 機場換匯為 1 USD to 3800柬幣, 當地一般商店換匯為 1 USD to 4000柬幣左右, 而當地一般外國銀行可換匯為 1 USD to 4050柬幣左右, 神奇吧~ 機場換匯居然比較貴
順道提醒各位旅客, 當地機場及暹粒市區已有可跨國提款的ATM, 所以現金可以不必帶太多, 而且根據我的經驗, 柬幣不需換太多, 因為有些用美金標價的餐廳如果用柬幣附的話,有時會以1:4200的比例來算,所以付柬幣反而較貴,請小心, 好好玩吧 ^_^
