Hi, I am now in Brazil, and I would like to visit Manaus on August. How much does it cost for 5 days trip?
Well, I am very interested in jungle trip, but none of my brazilian friends have visisted northern Brazil before.
By the way, do you have any idea for 5 days trip from Manaus to Belem by boat?

Thanks a lot for further information.

Hi, Just some suggestion!

For the tour trip in Manaus, - Just do not go with Green Planet Tour.
No Good and the guide can not speak English (unless you can speak their language)!

For the 4-day Boat trip from Manaus to Belm, it was in my list.
However, after a 3 to 4 hour boat trip sleeping in a hammock, I decided not to take the 4-day boat trip since you need to sleep in your own hammock for 4-day. In addition, there are a lot of thieves in the ship. You need to take the trip with friends for the safy of your belongings.
Thanks a lot for your kind suggestion. I can imagine how terrible it is for sleeping in the hammock for 4 days trip. I guess I will probably feel dizzy and vomit all the time because of seasickness. Well, for the tour trip in Manaus, what tour that you think I should never miss?

Are there many tour guides of Manaus speak English? Well, as I know, only very few people speak English in Brazil and only if they are bilingual tour guide or they have been to foreign country before.

Sorry for more questions about Manaus.
Is it possible to use credit card for joining the tour? Well, it is very common in the eastern south area and south state, but I have no idea how it works in the north part.

Thanks again for your further suggestion.

by the way... adding note is a must laaaaa... (Y)

For credit card usage in Maunus, I think it would work in most big travel agencies. However, then you may loss some ground on price negotiation. For my trip with Green Planet Tour (program no good and food was no good), I paid US$100 for 3 days trip in traveller's check. BTW, you definitely need to bargain for the tour and even everything you buy.
There is another tour group which I had talked with and seemed to be OK - Terra Verde Lodge. Their office address indicated in Lonely Planet was out of date. However, the price for a 3-day trip (sleep on fixed land - not floating lodge) was US$220. I had negotiated down to US$200 but it was still to expensive to me; therefore, I did not go with them. (The owner is a polish guy and can speek English.)
Basically speaking, most of the tour's programs were: Boating to the joint of two rivers (black and white), see fresh river dolphins (grey and pink dolphins), fishing Piranhas, catch small Caimans, half day Jungle walks, small boat paddling and see animals among the river banks, .....
The good thing for sleeping on a floating lodge is: You might be able to see dolphins swimming in group next to your floating lodge while you are resting/chatting/eating and fishing right on the lodge. However, water supply for shower and even drinking water can be a problem. It would be better to prepare your only drinking water before you depart.
BTW, I was very lucky. I saw a full-moon eclipse after dinner and chatting with other tourists and saw full-moon reflecting on the river and 20 minutes later, the moon was dispeared almost completely for 2 minutes and mirroring from the river again later.
According to the local guide (after translated by someone else), it normally happens every two years in Maunas area. (Nov, 2003).
If you could not see any animals during the tour, you can visit the local zoo and see some of them. (20-30 minutes bus from downtown) I went there and snibed in through the reseach center right next to it (they were interconnected internally).

For other places to visit in Maunus, Just have some walks (during the day time or very early evening near the downtown habor area. Don't go there after completely dark. Enjoy the foods there with plenty of fruits.
For language concerns, although I could not speak Portuguese and English is only working on tourist shops and hostles, I still had good time there. If you can speak Spanish, that would help.
tjhuang, thanks for your kind and complete explanation.
What a coincidence that I just contacted with Terra Verde Lodge few days ago, and they gave me some information about my trip in Manaus. However, I am not yet make any reservation till now.

I have lived in Brazil for about 8 months, so I can speak some basic portuguese. I think language won´t be a big problem to me anyway.

Because of my budget, I may not able to join expensive trip, but I will discusee with the travel agencies anyway.

Youth Hostel
