[歐洲 比利時安特衛普 Europe Antwerp Belgium] Day 20 Extraordinary 。Erotic。

A few days ago, Olivier mentioned an abandoned village, Doel nearby. Due to the new plan of the government, the residents in the village have to move out. However, the plan was put aside, but the village is already empty. It became the slum for homeless, a place for drug addict to gather and the paradise for artists. Therefore, it is also named Ghost Town. A nuclear power station is next to Doel which reminded me Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster. It made Doel as Ghost Town more convincing.

The houses are either broken and full of weeds at the entrance or full of crap inside the house and the used syringe on the ground. They have a big contrast with the graffiti on the wall of the building. The spooky feeling attracted tourists and the photographers for photo shooting.

I was totally allured to visit this extraordinary place. Since no public transport to this town anymore, you can only reach there by driving or riding the bike, also it was my last day in Belgium, I requested Olivier to show me to this adventure.

Only 15 mins drive, we arrived Doel. Since it was Sunday, lots of people were already occupying the town. It was not as quiet as I imagined. I have to use my imagination: more than 10 zombies were walking out there around the corner, they made some awful roar while walking toward me.
Imagine hard the zombies are coming
Abandon Store

I have seen some pictures of Doel before. I hope to see those amazing masterpieces in person so that I stayed alert to look around. Make sure I saw those wonderful graffiti behind the bush.

A windmill is at Doel, it is the oldest windmill in Belgium. The truth is there is not many traditional windmill in Belgium, therefore, it is easy to be one of the oldest windmill.

After spending the morning in Doel, we went to Middleheim Park. I was attracted by one picutre I saw in the internet. Here is a open air sculptures park. You could find many weird sculptures and nude body statues. Since Olivier family had been here before, I decided to walk around on my own and took some pictures.

Solo is happy sometimes. I would stay longer if my stomache didn't ask for food. While Noemi prepared curry for dinner, we watched a movie together as usual. Sienna picked an animation Bee Movie. I was actually feeling sleepy after dinner, but I cannot sleep right away because I am going to Berlin today! Finally TO BERLIN!!! The overnight bus will arrive Berlin in the morning. I have to fight against the sleepy devil.

The closer to the time to leave, I missed Olivier family even more. I hope Sienna would not forget about me, please do remember me for at least four month. Please remember a big sister who doesn't speak Flemish but kept saying Cantonese and polished her nail.
Olivier dropped me off at the bus stop and wished me all the best of my journey. I was then alone at the bus stop for a while. There was no one waiting at the bus stop and many turkish or middle east men were along the street. They looked at me and said "kong ni chi wa" (Japanese) made me decided to stay for a while in the Central Station. I didn't expect security will pertrol in the station, it was much safer there. Later a drunky was yelling in the station which drew the attention of the security, but then nothing much he did to harm anyone.
The security in the Central Station
Midnight in Central Station

Back to the bus stop again, some other passengers were there already. I noticed that they were holding a paper in hand and I felt something gonna happen. If those are printed bus ticket, I screwed up because I only have my e-ticket in my mobile. The bus arrived and everyone presented their ticket to the conductor after put back the luggages at the storage. The conductor checked the ticket and took it from each passenger. I showed my e-ticket to him and hope he will let me on board. Unluckily, he rejected!

The conductor said a hard copy of the ticket is needed, they don't accept the soft copy. They insisted to stick to the rule, and re-stated that I need to have a hard copy. I started feeling nervous because if I don't get to Berlin now, I have to buy another ticket cost me €50, plus I have to due with the accommodations for tonight. I was driven to be crazy at that point. The conductor asked to to talk to the driver, if the drive is ok then I can be on board.

Tri: Sorry, I only have my e-ticket, can you let me get on?
Driver: No! We need the ticket.
Tri: I know. I have my ticket, but it is on my phone. Please take a look.
He didn't even have a glance of it.
Driver: You have a look here too. (He opened the paper bag.) Everyone gave us the ticket. If you have none, NO!
Then he went back to the seat and got ready to go. I thought he was gonna leave me alond.
I started to beg him to let me on. I said I can give him the copy once I arrived Berlin, but he has to let me on first.
He came to me again.
Driver: OK! If you said your ticket is in your phone, give it to me!
He took my phone and put it in the paper bag and said: Now get on!
I was shocked by what had just happened. I didn't respond right away. Did he just do that? My phone is in the paper bag?
I really did not know what is going on.
Tri: You will give me back the phone when we back to Berlin, right?
Driver: No. You said that is your ticket. We need your "ticket" to let you on.
I became more nervous than before. I can't let you have my phone. It is my only device for communication.
Then he gave me back and came closer to me, whispered into my ear: Do you have cash?
Well...finally the solution is money. If a problem can be dealed with money, it is not a problem at all. It is a hidden agenda around the world.
Tri: How much do you want?
Driver: €50
?!?! What?!?! My bus ticket costs €50 only, how dare you bribe me a double? I said I only have €20, nothing much.
They accepted and it is finally over.

Although I can be on the bus, I was very depressed about the "administration fee" I paid. Other than that, the two French behind me kept talking the whole night made me staying awake most of the ride.

[歐洲 德國柏林 Europe Berlin Germany] Day 21 Travel Together 4人遊

I AM GOING to meet Moritz again which made me nervous. Last time was about half a year ago, how did we changed so far? Meanwhile, the driver walked toward me and said, we will arrive very soon. He requested me to print him back the ticket in the nearby hotel, then I can come back to pick up my backpack. I wondered if why he insisted in it because he received my administration fee already.

The bus was approaching the bus stop and I can see clearly where Moritz stood as there were not many passengers. I saw him looking around, maybe he was looking for me. When the moment I saw him, my heartbeat became quick and hard. The driver asked me to get off first. I noticed my backpack was on the ground while the guard and patrol dog were standing behind. The guard asked if I have any drug inside my backpack. Although I was clean, I felt a bit anxious for asking. The driver said something in German to the guard and asked me to bring back the ticket in 10 minutes. Moritz was just right there looking at what was happening. I felt a bit embarrassing as I don't have time to explain him anything, but dragged him with me to the hotel for the printed ticket to get back my backpack.

The hotel reception should have seen many tourists came for the printing issue. She told me mechanically without any emotion that I can use the computer there and printing service costs €0.5 each. I spent a while for printing but then found out the computer was not connected to the printer. Then I needed to do it in another one. The driver was inpatient, he came to the hotel and urged me to be quick. He said he is leaving soon. I don't have time to take care of him. Luckily Moritz was there to tell him wait for a while and asked him not to leave. Otherwise, I would definitely be crazy.

Finally I had the printout for the driver. He looked more nice and smile to us immediately. He brought us to the bus for my backpack. When we decided to go after getting back the stuff, he asked us to wait. He gave me back €10 which was already nice enough even it was not the full amount. I was already happy to have some money back.

After the chao, I can eventually look at Moritz. I found he looks different than the one in Hong Kong and I even felt that he looks more handsome than before. He helped me with the backpack and we walked next to each other. Without saying a word, he placed his hand on my shoulder which actually made me feel awkward. I didnt ask why because I guessed European are that nice and friendly. It is natural behaviour.
Im in Berlin!!!

Moritz and I met Gus & Gilbert at Alexander Platz. I was craving to travel with everyone for a long time. Moritz bought one more one-day pass for U-Bahn/S-Bahn by mistake, so he gave that to me. I was wondering if it was really a mistake or he planned to buy it to me. It was really amazing to see my HK friends in Berlin, it was something cannot express in English. If so, I will just say...It is amazing.

The only thing I would like to do in Berlin is re-visit Berlin wall, visiting Ritter Sport Shot and meeting German friend Panda. The others are up to my friends. Moritz lived in Berlin before, so he will be our guide and translator.

We had breakfast at a cafe. Then started wandering around the compound. There are many murals but I have seen enough yesterday in Ghost Town. I didn't have incentive to take pictures. My backpack was stored at Alexandra Platz, while Gus & Gilbert's were at the hotel and Moritz's was at his friends' place. We will meet again at the storage in Alexandra Platz and headed to our living place together. As my backpack was there already, I was at the cafe for internet and scheduled to meet Panda tomorrow. Then I saw Moritz outside the cafe with his backpack. What a coincidence to meet as the station is big. Is that fate?

Gus & Gilber also came back with there suitcases. We then head to our place. The apartment is larger than my expectation, there is one living room and one bedroom. Moritz and I stayed in the single beds in the living room while Gus & Gilbert have the bedroom. After a rest, we decided to cook most of the trip. I totally agreed with this suggestion because it saved a lot of money and made every one get closer. It then became my favor activity of the day and I looked forward to everyday.

We bought some ingredient in the supermarket, pasta, sauce and salad. It was a lot and we were already hungry while preparing the dinner. So it just took 10 minutes to finish the food.

Since it was still early, we went to the city for a walk, experience Berlin at night and have a look of Brandenburg Gate.

[歐洲 德國柏林 Europe Berlin Germany] Day 22 I LOVE BERLIN 我愛柏林

It is Moritz habit to take off the clothes to sleep at night, he found it is more comfortable. Even since I grew up, my dad and brother would not do that. European is quite open-minded.
Big Project:: Scramble Egg

To have a right partners to travel together is very essential. If you have the right one, congratulations. But if you have someone can't get along well, it would be the beginning of a nightmare. I was lucky enough to have some good trip mates. Everybody has their own responsiblilty. Gus did research, listed out some interesting places to visit. Gilbert always held the mobile and camera, so he became the official photographer. Moritz is from Germany, he will be the translator and mobile map. And I? I was the commander and the queen LOL I threw some idea in critical moment. At the same time, I was the one will least contribution. Please forgive me as I was alone and dealing with my own journey. I wanted to have a rest.
Classic!! Gilbert is the best!!!

Moritz didn't place his hand on my shoulder anymore, because I asked him why yesterday. He said if I feel uncomfortable, he will not do that. However, we always got close to each other without intention. It made Gus & Gilbert wonder we are not just friend. Gus even teased us as Hyper Best Friend ( closer than best friend )

Thank you for the Iphone from Gus, he downloaded a lot of camera apps. One of them is 360° Selfie. It allowed friends to take picture together with different modes. We spent a lot of time in discussing how to take a good selfie, it was so much fun. Other than that, we also used other apps to take pictures which made our journey more wonderful.

We meet Panda in the afternoon. I met him the first time in Hong Kong while he was travelling. He wore his hand-made Panda suit to every city and took a signature picture. Besides, he invited new friend to join his project too. Since he was way taller than me, when I was next to him, I was just like a Panda baby which is very warm.

He joined us to the East Side Gallery. One of the pictures was simliar to the one I saw in the Saxophone town. We made plenty of pictures in front of that. A few tourists helped us with the pictures but we were not satisfied with any. Finally Gilbert has to show and demonstrate once to the tourist to have a better shot.

We also went to a park. I forgot which was that. It wasn't weekend or holiday, but the park was full of youth. Some of them were doing sport, some of them were sleeping, some of them even build their stove for bbq. I believed people there were either freelancers or artists, otherwise, they would not be that free. We headed up to find some space to have a rest. Panda asked if we planned to visit the Spy Station near Berlin. I guessed, it is related to the isolation of East-West Germany. For the details, I would share with everyone later. We were very interested in this place.
A lots of youngest spending the time at the park
My Favor SWING!!!! I can see a better Berlin when I was up high

Do you mind if I kiss you? No, I don't mind OR No, you cannot kiss me??
Since Panda was not free in the evening, we didn't have dinner together. Instead, we headed back home for making dinner. The chep tonight was Gilbert & Gus, so Moritz and I stayed in the living room for the dinner. Moritz all of a sudden asked me "Do you mind if i kiss you?" I didn't know how to respond and feeling very embarrassed. I remembered I said "NO!!" Would it be "No, I don't mind" or "No, you cannot kiss me??" I wasn't quite sure.
1400860

After dinner, we all gather together for the upcoming itinerary and played some card games. Gilbert was tired already and the beer in the meal made him sleepy. But he still insisted in spending time with us and tried hard to open his eyes. We found it so funny and asked him to take a rest earlier after shower. We also showered one after one. When I finished and left the bathroom, Gilbert rushed into the bathroom immediately. I was told he was holding since I was showering and was waiting for the toilet before he could sleep. It was a tough time for me.

We all went to sleep and there were only Moritz and I in the living room. It reminded me what he asked me before dinner, I guessed I have to give him my answer properly. With the fight among rational and emotional, I decided to start dating with Moritz. We agreed that no intimacy behavious in front of Gus & Gilbert. I don't want to make them feeling bad and uneasy.

[歐洲 德國柏林 Europe Berlin Germany] D23 Love as the First time 情竇初開

Saying goodbye to my single life all of a sudden, I honestly felt so excited. I became a little girl fell in love like the first time, everything in your eyes are him! I kept asking Moritz questions all night long. For example, When did you realize you hit on me? Why did you choose to start as it would be a long distance relationship which will be really tough? When was your last girlfriend? Are they German or not? Of cos I asked him What do you like about me? I believed this is what every girl concern. The reason could make themself happy for the whole day. I was like a detective to find out all the information related to the case. I needed to know everything useful. Moritz was very patient to tell me whatever I was interested. It was already 5am when we finally went to sleep.

We, again, had a Full Table breakfast before starting our day. Since Panda wont see us today, we will leave the Spy Station for tomorrow. The first stop was to the Ritter Sport Chocolate Flagship Store. I didn't know Ritter Sport would have a Flagship Store in Berlin until Moritz told me. haha.. It is Moritz again!! I was expecting to make my own chocolate there as mentioned in their official website. However, it was only for kids under 12. Instead we visited the cafe for cakes and drinks. It was very tasty :)

It happened to us that we were running out of toilet paper. The guy renting us the flat said we needed to buy at our own cost. It was also a coincidence that I saw several roll of toilet papers at the toilet in Ritter Sport. Due to the problom of lacking of toilet paper, I took some with me. Thats why I urged everyone to leave the shop asap because I was really afriad someone would find it out and arrested me. I also thought too much about the door alarm will ring because there was hidden barcode on the toilet paper.

Starting from the late afternoon, I realized Moritz was being quiet and alwaya sit down whenever possible. Even we were standing on the S-bahn platform and chatting, he chose to sit alone at the seat to wait for the train. I thought he tried to avoid getting to close to me, as what we agreed.

Speaking of my companions, they are all experienced traveler.

Gus is very detail-minded and he always spoted some minor facts. I found him a comfortable one to travel with because he well organized most of the plan and able to take care of the itinerary. His research were helpful in the entire trip. His effort made us a pleasant trip. Since he also likes to write journey, some nights we were writing our own journey together. We wont share what we wrote but we will discuss and remind each other what we did for the day. I admited that I am lazy compare with Gus. Sometimes I will skip writing the travelogue due to fatigue. He will urge me to write it before there are too many travelogues accumulated.
Gus is looking for direction

Gilbert, another experienced traveller, took a lot of photos of Moritz and I everyday. Because of the photos, I had a chance to see how I like when Moritz was next to me, which I was very enjoy and full of love. He captured the natural moment Moritz and I smiled while talking to each other. Besides, he is a big fans of beer. He drank beer every meal and ended up the first one to fall asleep. Last but not least, he LOVES cars, antique car is his favor. When we walked in Berlin and Poland, it always happened he disappeared without notice. Berlin and former Soviet Union Poland have lots of antique cars which conquered Gilbert 's camera. We then tried to look for the old car nearby, because he mostly there taking photos. After he left, the old cars I saw will remind me of him. I will take a photo for his collection.

Moritz, a special one to me. What a stupid question to ask. Of cos he is A W E S O M E. I won't say too much now. You will know more about him if you keep track on my travelogue because he will be with me for a few more weeks which mean I will keep mentioning him here!!

Alright! Back to our day.

As mentioned, Moritz worked in Berlin a few years ago. He stayed contact with a good co-worker Florian who is in Berlin. So we all went to meet him. He is a nice and cheerful guy. Moritz was very excited to see Florian after 2 years. Florian taught us a German slang when drinking "Zur mitte, zur Titte, zum Sack, zack zack ". It means holding your glass to the middle, to the boobs and to the balls.

Its 9pm when we finally home. Everyone was starving. We bought bell peppers, potatoes, chicken breast in the supermarket for €9. It was really cheap to cook onour own. The portion for tonight was a bit less for everyone.

Spy Station is located in Teufelsberg which is the suburb in Berlin. Teufelsberg means Devil's Mountain in German. The US set up the listening station here during cold war period. No one is allowed to enter the station until 1992. Now it is opened for public for visit ...for money!!

We scheduled to meet Panda at the U-Bahn station first, then we will walk to the mountain together. While we were waiting for Panda, Moritz sit on the bench again. He was having pain when he walked and stood since yesterday. This is also the reason why he kept taking rest whenever there is chair. I started worry about him since we are gonna walk for 40 minutes to the top of the mountain. I hope he will be fine.
Gate of the Spy Station

Passing through a lot of trees and going up and up, we finally arrived at the gate of the Spy Station. It was free entry before, people could just sneak in the Station through the fence hole. But now the holes were fixed and all the visitors should join a "tour" to visit the Station. It was 7 Euros for a tour with a creepy guy as your guide. I honestly do not like the guide because he gave us no useful information and seems like a drug addicted. He just urged us to walk through the whole place within an hour. We were not allowed to stay for a minute longer. It was really annoying. The only job he did well was, when the time is up, he walked us out to the exit, make sure we won't stay behind.
Signage of DANGER

The Station is full of graffiti made by invited artists. New painting is made regularly. I found that the outside of the spy station office at the gate had different graffiti than the photos I saw in the internet. I guess it is a marketing strategy to attract visitors to come occasionally.

Teufelsberg is located in Green Forest
We will walk up to the top of the globe
The guy is the so called "guide"

In the top of the Station which is inside the gigantic globe, it was so dark and the light cant come through. And there is echo around when you talked. I was whispering with Moritz. His stiuation got worser when we arrived at the top, so we decided to go to the hospital for check up after the picnic. To play safe, we should go to the hospital as we will leave Germany to Poland tomorrow.
Top of the Globe

We left the Station and picnicked on the meadow with bread, ham and chips. I guessed I would have more chances to picnic in the coming months. I seldom do it in Hong Kong since the time and location constraints. However, to do it in Europe is a very common activity in weekend.
Picnic Location

I did not remember when we arrived at the hospital, but we have been waiting for a long time until the doctor met Moritz. The first doctor didn't check anything wrong with him. So he was suggested to see another one ,may be for another few hours waiting. After a quick discussion, Moritz will stay for the doctor and we will head to the city for food because we were starving. I was feeling so bad when Moritz was not next to me. We all were together since we met the first day in Berlin and Moritz took good care of us, showed us the way and brought us to the transport. All of a sudden, we became a losing puppy without direction. I was so sorry to Gus & Gilbert which made them spending time in the hospital with us.

We tried to find a reasonable restaurant for meal, but all of them were very expensive for me. We ended up decided to buy pizza and some frozen food from supermarket. In this way, when Moritz came home, he could eat as he should be hungry already.

When we were at the supermarket, Moritz called. He was ready to leave the hospital finally. I was greatly released about the news and looking so forward to see him again in the apartment. Doctor gave him some painkiller and he could continue the trip with us.

[歐洲 波蘭甚切青 Europe Szczecin Poland] Day 25 We are in Poland!!!

Moritz and I slept late in the morning, Gus & Gilbert had been to the supermarket to recycle the beer bottles and prepared the breakfast.
Do you know the theory of "Camera eat first"?

Spending 4 days in Berlin was not too much. We did not do a lot but have done most of the signature spots, we had a leisure time in Berlin. However, we did not go to the bar and clubbing in Berlin, and not able to experience the night life here.

Gus & Gilbert knew the relationship of Moritz and I already, it lets me get further closer to him. I only knew from Gus's travelogue later that he & Gilbert were planning a wicked idea now, they planned to surprise us.

We are mimicking the signage.

Gdańsk。 The first destination in Poland is Szczecin, a city with weird name in both chinese and english. I still dont know how to read the name which I kept reading it as "six sin". Choosing Szczecin as the first stop was for stopover to Gdansk. It takes 7 hours by train directly to Gdansk from Berlin which is too long. So we will split the ride into two, taking train again from here to Gdansk tomorrow.

1403881
Ticket Office in Szczecin Poland.

From Berlin to Szczecin, the train takes 2 hours only. We first bought the train ticket for tomorrow and we faced our first challenge. The face of the cashier shown the meaning "I dont speak English, but only Polish! " to us. I felt dislike of Poland at that moment. We used body language and wrote her the place and date to tell her what we want to get the ticket finally. All set, we went to the hostel now, and google told us to take the tram then walked 800 meters. Great! Everything seems smooth until we have the second challenge came...We dont have Poland Zloty, how can we take the tram! So Gus & Gilbert go for the exchange while Moritz & I will look after the luggages.

The weather in Poland is different from that in Berlin. Here is hot, walking 800 meters after the tram under the sun was hard, with my backpack the distance became very long. We passed through a supermarket. Using Gilbert 's Beer Index for comparison, the living standard in Poland is low. Gilbert can drink one more beer from now.
On the tram.
Prost!!

Except using 360° Selfie application, we used another apps to take photos which is the same object can be shown more than once on the photo. You can have a twins sisters or multiples. To express it in cantoness, it is "ho guo yan"super awesome. When we had fun for the apps, the iron gate opened. Gus and I thought the wind was unexpectedly strong to open the gate. But when we turned around, we saw a car leaving and the gate was electric and opened automatically.
I like this photo very much!!!

We found our dinning place according to the guide book. Pierogi, a kind of dumpling, is very famous in Poland, that's why we should order it for the first meal in Poland. The restaurant is well-furnished and quite stylish. The food portion is large which make sense with the price too. We order a salat, the soup, pierogi and a pork chop. We underestimated the food portion and produced some leftover.
During our meal, it started to rain. We decided to wait until the rain got lighter and taxi back to hostel. We were waiting under the rain. It always happened that the taxi driver may make a detour for more fare. Therefore, all of us stayed alert, referring to Google map and the road to make sure we were on the right track. We were outside the hostel less than 10 minutes and the fare was just 5 PLN, around 11HKD. Really?!?!

Although the distance between my bed and Moritz's was only 50cm, it felt like the farthermost distance in the world. Although he was next to my side, I missed him so much when I closed my eyes.

WOOOOW!! I myself also felt that too nausea to say it, but this is my first feeling waken in the morning.

We are on board again and I felt we have established a better consensus. We stood at different point for the taxi as soon as possible without anyone asking to do it. The train leaves at 10am and arrives at 3pm. We bought some food and drink and the phone card before we left. It was a 8-person carriage like the Russian Trans-Siberian Railway Train which made me so excited. To have companions for a long train ride, time flies with lots of eating, chatting and laughter. We were at Gdansk.

Moritz
Our apartment is located in the old town which is 20 minutes walk from the train station. It is a house at the back of the restaurant. There is no seperate bedroom but a spacious living room with 4 beds.
2 single beds = 1 double bed

We had a rest at the apartment before heading out for a walk. It was already 5pm the time we moved. Since it has occasional rain outside, we spent some time in a cafe for food. Since I was with Moritz, he took very good care of me and asked if I needed anything all the time. I was really flattered by his behaviour and it did make him earn some credit.

We bought some ingredient from supermarket. Gilbert will be the chef tonight and making us risotto. Yummy!! Since we were in Berlin, we didn't have chance to do laundry. We expected the apartment would have the washing machine so that problem solved. However, we don't even have a dish washer here. So Moritz and I went out again to check for the nearby laundry and also have some time alone.

Gdansk is a coastal city along Baltic Sea. It has a beautiful port. If you are strolling in the evening, you will see the sunset which is very romantic. However, it was the summer time in Europe, it was still bright when we were there.
1403911
The whole city only has a luxury laundry in the shopping mall. So we decided to do it in our last stop - Warsaw. The accomondation in Warsaw will be chosen only if the washing machine provided.

I have to praise Moritz again. Most of the time we prepared dinner late and he was actually starving. However, he never say a word or complained anything. He was not picky for food either and very easy-going. We all found him a very well-educated kid.

Since I arrived Germany, I ate yogurt everyday. Sometimes I ate several cups in one time. So it is the same for today. Moritz prepared the homemade pancake as well. I bought the pancake powder pack in Hong Kong and mixed them with water for pancake. But Moritz used to make the pancake mixture on his own. I was really impressed by what he did. To make the pancake with better texture, we could add some sparkling water to the mixture. When we thought we got one in the supermarket yesterday, Moritz found that it was just pure distilled water. Some of us suggested to use soft drink, some of us suggested to use tap water and some of us suggested to use beer, but Moritz rejected all of them. He thought of using the egg white. To use the sparkling water is to fill the mixture with air, make it more like waffle; so beating the egg white in high speed can also have the same effect. This treat ease the daily life.

Weather is better than yesterday which there is sunshine. We decided to take the train to Malbork Castle which takes 35 minutes.

Lunch before heading to the castle. Finally Kebab time!

We passed a fastfood chain named with "M". Gilbert said his friend ate a soft ice-cream with waffle cup in Poland. So we checked it out here and found it. It consisted of different flavor, e.g. strawberry syrup, caramel syrup or chocolate syrup.

The castle is 5 minutes away from "M" shop, the entrance fee is 40PLN which is higher than what is listed in the guidebook. The staff selling ticket said we can borrow the audio guide in another counter, however, the other staff at the borrow counter said "NO". Out of stock already?? There were two tourists returned the audio set, so we asked if we could use them. He said "NO" again because the battery was not enough. We double confirmed if there was really no audio guide to lend, he said "NO" again because those are under maintanence. I was really annoyed with what had happened so far. The entrance fee is high, but no audio guide provided and only "NO" to whatever questions I asked.I just hope the spent 40PLN will be worthed.

Malbork Castle is special because 50% of the buildings were destroyed in WWII and then a hugh fire happened which further damaged the structure of the castle. The government decided to renovate some of the historical buildings and have some remained with war damage. It lets the tourists to feel the war on their own. In 1997, the UNESCO announced the castle as the world heritage.

The castle itself is not big, but I still remember some parts of it. There is an entrance on the ground which links to a fuel room in basement. It is not a spacious area and very dark inside. In winter, when there are guests or official staff used the ballroom upstair, the worker will stay inside the fuel room to burn the wood to make upstair warm. Another place is a room for congress on the top of the building. Both sides are placed with chair symmetrically. But the chairs on the left hand side was bombed and with some small piece of chair left, the ceiling of the congress hall was broken with a big hole. It made me have goosebumps.
It was almost a month for my trip and in other words, I left home for a while. I started missing my home, my family and the food. I started feeling nausea to see bread and paster. I meant it!! I really did not want to have more carbonhydrate but something Hong Kong Style. I made the macaroni in tomato soup and fried eggs. I really miss Hong Kong!!
At night, Moritz suggested to walk along the coast with everyone and then chilled in a seashore bar. I saw a bar with swings when I was out with Moritz in the evening. I already liked the sytle very much. We walked around the port and didn't find any place surprising. So we finally go back to the Swing Bar. The bar has a great design. Apart from that there is a box in the middle of the restaurant. The box is under the ground and it is transparent. The size is quite large which can carry an adult. A huge snake is inside. If you walked over the glass of the box, you would feel very insecure!!!

Europe Gdansk Poland] Day 28 Sopot

After the Hongkong Style dinner, we had another Hongkong style breakfast this morning. Gilbert prepared the congee last night.

We will spend our day in the Old Town (AM) and Sopot (PM).

It was very crowd along the port, which are full with souvenir stalls, people promoting the touristic sightseeing boat to the tourists and different snacks from kiosk. I read from the guide about the deep fried bread with cheese filling which is a famous snack in Poland. I just didn't expect it would be that expensive in this low standard country.

We started to visit Sopot in the afternoon. We came here because of the Crooked House. I have been to the Cube House in Rotterdam and the Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna, it made me looking so forward to the Crooked House in Poland. In the other way round, I was so disappointed of what was in front of me. It was gloomy and partly covered by the branches. It looks nothing special and totally a huge difference from the photos on the internet. I cannot accept this is it and walked around to make sure I didn't miss it. When I confirmed that is the Crooked House, I don't have the incentive to take any photos at all.

Luckily, there is another attraction in Sopot. It has the longest wooden path in Europe and the stunning sea view of Baltic Sea. Gus & Gilbert suggested to split and insisted to let Moritz and I to be alone. I felt that there is a trap before Gus's kind intention. Moritz asked about my plan after I back to Hong Kong. He meant what kind of job I will look for. In the past, I used to avoid answering these questions, just laugh it off and don't take it seriously. But this guy in front of me is not someone, but the man I may spend my life with, I have to be serious and share my plan with him.

Tonight we were busy with our own stuff, enjoy the time alone after dinner. I took a rest early after finishing all my pending diaries because we will catch the train at 8am to Warsaw tomorrow.
