Dear all,
Now I have a question for you. This question is hanging around me for a couple months. Some of my friends also would like to know before going shopping.
Condition:
1. I am a student in Hamburg. I have Taiwan passport only.
2. Residence permit valid from last year till July 31, 2007, but I will leave on June 7, 2007.
3. I am not coming back to Germany in the future, say at least 2 years or forever.
4. I would like to buy a fancy watch here for a life time memory.
Question:
1. Can I get tax refund?
2. Some friends said that the "Abmeldebestaetigung" may help to explain that I am not a residence, but another PH.D student in Law claim that "Abmeldebestaetigung" cannot approve anything. What to do?
3. Or how can I get the refund? Any other approve that I can show to the customs? Even the customs may not understand their refund policy.
4. Blogs show that some students get the refund in their last departure successfully, others don't. How can they know this is my last departure.
5. Any "real" regulation that I can print out and bring with me to show the customs? The refund might be a couple thousands, so I need to make sure I can get it back.
I sent many e-mails to the German Federal Ministry of Finance and the customs, they all replied me in a lengthy e-mail. But none of them "clearly" answer my question. I think they are not sure either. If we can figure this matter out, this may help all the "old" students in Europe.
Thanks and regards,
JT
