不過一個人出門在外如果碰上倒楣事, 例如被偷或被搶應該會很慘不是嗎?

I have been travelling alone in a few countries in Europe alone. I think it depends on the countries and areas. I would not recommend travelling to Eastern European countries alone though. Just be highly-alerted all the time, not hanging out alone in the nights. Please do not carry lots of cash, and avoid carrying back-packs. Try to find out how safe the places are before hand - any areas needed to be avoided?

被偷或被搶當然會很慘.此次 歐洲之行兩樣都遇上了.在東歐儘量不要搭地鐵.搭巴士也要小心.可以找到空位就坐著.不要站在門口.背包一定要往前揹以手壓住.(當地人也都如此做)強烈建議以扣環扣住鍊!!!護照與簽證要有備份而且不要與現金放在一起.
如有情侶刻意向你 靠近,也要特別警覺.

我是還沒機會去到東歐, 不過倒在瑞典斯德哥爾摩的五星級飯店被扒過, 所有證件,護照與機票都不見, 處理方式為1)掛失所有信用卡與手機SIM card 2)至當地警察局報警並取得證明 (此時需準備照片若無則要先拍快照）3）聯絡台灣駐外代表處請求申請補發護照或一紙證明文件 4）回台時請家人攜帶戶口名簿與身份證至機場入出境管理局保妳回家（除非妳有其他證件）

基本上，如何安置隨身物品是旅行必備的功課。
我自助旅行多次，絕不帶皮夾出門！
所有證件、金錢，必是貼身放。在衣服及褲子裡請人幫您縫些暗袋吧！
機票、護照級信用卡則用貼身袋(登山社及旅行社都有賣)綁身上吧！
每天將吃、喝、玩樂用的少量現金放外口袋，其他分散放。
所以你需要準備有很多口袋(或暗袋)的衣物。
背包中也可以『袋中有袋』，你需要做功課喲！
會不會被搶？有點靠運氣，樓上的前輩們說的是！晚上少在都市區獨晃。
經驗是：我個人出門在外一定把所有可能引起別人覬覦的衣飾留家裡，名牌包、手錶、貴重手飾、名牌服飾..............想得到的都換掉！也不化妝！ 少引人注意就是啦！
(這一點看個人啦！如果您考慮到拍照或個人習慣........)
問路：要找看起來老實的中學生、帶小孩的媽媽、打扮簡單的小姐、和善的老人、.......總之，用自己的判斷力吧！

我常想：如果我是小偷或扒手，那我會去哪些地方偷或搶人呢？是五星級飯店還是YH、 pension？是衣飾豪華的旅客或是學生打扮的？哪一種人比較可能我能偷到值錢的物品？哪一種人看起來容易搶？
我倒是常常做這些逆向思考，目前為止挺有幫助的！

東歐真的有這麼恐怖嗎？坐火車，搭地鐵，追公車，趕街車，樣樣都有沾到，我也是這樣走回來啊！
說要如何防範，不外乎是大家常說的財不漏白，準備暗袋，自己要多小心．而這些基本的安全觀念也不光在東歐才用得到，到哪個國家都是一樣．只要是觀光客多的地方，就有偷兒在那兒賴以維生．我們一臉黃皮膚黑頭髮，不用裝也知道是外地觀光客．
老實說，不需要自己太嚇自己，大家建議的些安全措施有落實，旅行不會那麼慘的！

I went to Prague with 3 other girls. To be honest, I would not dare to go there alone. We were waiting by a tram stop, a policecar was very close to us and asked us where we are going? They then said that the tram is not running and asked us to go to another stop (pointing the way to us). We then moved our way there, but it seemed a rather strange place, so we decided to go back to a big underground stop and got a taxi from there.
The hotel reception lady has told us already that it cost no more than 300 to get back to the hotel from the city centre. Not surprisingly when we asked taxi drivers how much it cost to go to our hotel, we got answers like 600/800. We then said 300, they were fine with it.
I personally would prefer to enjoy travelling without having to worry about my purses/luggages too much, so I avoid those cities with reputation like too many pickpockets, etc.
Before travelling, I usually read a lot from the guidebooks about the places and check the online information. These days most of the places have their own websites, usually very informative, like Switzerland: www.myswitzerland.com. You can also order information brochure from the website - very useful and most of the time they are free. Sometimes guidebooks mention the places to avoid as well. Another useful website is www.traveladviser.com - some useful information about hotels, etc.
When booking hotel, I prefer a hotel near the underground/tram stop or easily accessible by buses, definitely not in the middle of nowhere. Before hand, I will check how to get to the hotel from the airport or train station - try to get there without checking map too much on the way (I try not to look lost in the foreign cities... (A)).
Try not to hang out in the nights... Usually I just go back to the hotel after dinner, unless I know the area is very safe and my way very well. You can ask the hotel reception for advices too, like whether it's okay to go out alone in the evenings, etc. Make sure you carry a hotel business card with you.
I never carry a backpack, always carry the bag on one shoulder. Leave those unnecessary cards at home...
