本人和內人計畫於今年九月中旬前往美國開車自由行，預計從LA進，開到New York之後，再開回頭，目前計畫的路徑如下:

Rent at least a mid size car, also, you should be the full cover insurance from the rental company, this will cost a lot of money (last time when I rented from Budget in Hawaii, the insurance was $40 a day, yes, more expensive than the car rental itself) but it will free you from being liable to the car if anything happen.
There is really nothing to see in Salt Lake City, but I do know a good Chinese resturant (have dim sum!) there. It is opened by my good friend's family. Let me find the address and will post here.

It's good to have a cell phone for any emergency situation especially you are driving across the country. but unlike HK or Taiwan, buying just the SIM card is not popular here (or prepaid minutes) and pretty expensive. If you have a friend that could let you borrow his phone for one month, ask him what kind of plan he has. Most plan have FREE LONG DISTANCE, but be careful, this means you can call TO anywhere in the US from your local calling area (for example, in SF, it is 415 area code), but NOT ALL PLAN have free long distance to call FROM anywhere in the US. For example, I am in the 415 area code, but I travel to New York, when I use my phone in New York, I will get CHARGED from roaming, which could be US$0.79 a minute.

Thank you for your recommendation. I know what you mean, but for a two month trip, the insurance would be a "burden" even if I just upgrade from compact to mid size. It will take me about US$1,700 for renting 56 days of Budget including LDW. But if I upgrade it to mid size, I have to pay at least $2,150. That's why I will rent Focus. I read from the other article that I can buy the insurance which is similiar to LIS in Taiwan with a cheaper price. I'll try to find it out.

油錢確實也是我考慮的點之一，而我自己在台灣開的也是小車，看到路上在跑的Focus，我想應該已經夠大台了啦！謝謝各位的意見！
另外有兩點要請教，10月初左右去冰河國家公園會不會太冷了？還有Bryce Canyon NP好像只有北口，所以從Zion NP過去只能繞到北口再進去囉？沒有其它路可從南往北走嗎？
